WORKSHOPS/ HEALTH EDUCATION

(EVERGREEN) Church Health’s free Diabetes Education Class teaches the basics of diabetes, its role in the body, diabetes medication, chronic disease management and nutrition for diabetics. Anyone may attend this class without registration, but a small snack will be provided for those who preregister. Class is held the second Saturday of each month, 9 am – 12 p.m., at 1350 Concourse Ave. Call 901-701-2220 to register.

Church Health is pleased to present Thrive! – a new monthly gathering of survivors of stroke and their families – on Wednesday, July 25 at 1 p.m. in the Church Health Community Room, 1350 Concourse, Ave. Through group reflection, social interaction, recreation and movement, we’ll explore how a balanced, healthy life after stroke is within reach. Thrive! is offered by Church Health Physical Rehabilitation and is free to participants and their families. Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach adults who regularly interact with young people how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis. Church Health Behavioral Health is offering this 8-hour course on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Church Health. Did you know that you are more likely to encounter someone experiencing an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack? The good news is that you can help them. COMMUNITY

(EVERGREEN) Hosted by Micah Greenstein, John Kilzer, Chris Miner, Scott Morris and Kirk Whalum, The Mystic is a monthly gathering to find connection through music, story and dialogue. The Mystic is held the last Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Crosstown Concourse,1350 Concourse Ave; July’s gathering is July 31 in the Church Health Community Room. All are welcome.

Church Health will host a reception and signing of Greg Graber’s recent book, Slow Your Roll: Mindfulness For Fast Times on Tuesday, July 24 at 6 p.m. in the Church Health Welcome Center. Also appearing will be Suzanne Henley whose new book Bead by Bead: The Ancient Way of Praying Made New offers a different approach to introspection. The Church Health Welcome Center is in the West Atrium at Crosstown Concourse.

Are you a Shelby County parent going through a divorce? Church Health will host the Tennessee Parenting Seminar on July 31, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at 1350 Concourse Ave. Taught by Attorney Kimberly Schreiber and Mediator David Adams, you’ll learn about the Tennessee Parenting Plan, the child support worksheet and how it provides stability for your child, and more. Registration is required. NUTRITION

There’s something beautiful about the balance of healthy and delicious food. In celebration of that beauty, Church Health will present The Art of Dinner on Friday, August 3 at 6 p.m. in the Church Health Nutrition Hub, 1350 Concourse Ave. In this interactive cooking class, Chef Joshua House will guide you through a three-course menu including smoked ribs, Cuban sandwiches and Banana’s Foster. In Church Health’s free Community Culinary Medicine Cooking Classes, you’ll learn how to make meals that are nutritious and delicious! Our six-week fall series start Tuesday, Aug. 21 and continue through Sept. 25. Morning (10 am-12 pm) and evening (6-8 pm) series are available.
