Attractions Partner for Memphis Culture Crawl
Year-long #MEMCultureCrawl promotion to highlight milestone anniversaries in 2016
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 14, 2016 – Several Memphis attractions will be celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2016. To honor these anniversaries, they are partnering to promote the Memphis Culture Crawl, a special ongoing event series that will give participants the chance to win prizes at each partner attraction.
Local residents and tourists are encouraged to visit the following attractions throughout 2016 and post a selfie on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MEMCultureCrawl. Participants will immediately be entered to win a prize at any participating attraction. The more attractions you visit and post the hashtag, the more chances you have of winning. A winner will be announced during select months throughout the year and contacted by the attraction. Participating attractions include:
110th anniversary
As the Memphis Zoo celebrates its 110th anniversary in 2016, it will also be celebrating the opening of Zambezi River Hippo Camp in the Spring. This exhibit will feature spectacular underwater viewing of hippos and 15-foot Nile crocodiles. Visitors, who will be immersed in the culture and atmosphere of Africa’s Zambezi River Valley will also see okapi, flamingos, an African aviary and more. Want to get up close and personal with an animal? Take a selfie in the Memphis Zoo using the #MEMCultureCrawl and be entered to win an animal encounter. Winner announced in June 2016.
100th Anniversary
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is turning 100. This astounding landmark year celebrates the oldest, largest and only world art collection in the state of Tennessee and beyond. From May 2016 to May 2017, twelve new groundbreaking art programs will be unveiled throughout the year, beginning with new works of art by contemporary artists in the front entrance as part of a new series titled Rotunda Projects. Visitors to Memphis will discover a newly energized permanent collection, an inaugural eMuseum, an innovative hands-on family gallery dedicated to the collection and a birthday party in May that will have the whole city talking about the Brooks Museum with renewed pride and joy. 100 years never looked so good. 60th Anniversary
Opera Memphis is celebrating 60 years of producing world-class opera in Memphis and five years since the arrival of General Director Ned Canty, who ushered in a new era of commitment to be a force for positive change in the opera world. 40th Anniversary
Memphis in May International Festival, the official festival of the city of Memphis, will be celebrating it’s 40th anniversary in 2016. To celebrate, Memphis in May is hosting a contest to win two 3-day passes to the Beale Street Music Festival (April 29 – May 1) and two 2-day passes to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest (May 12-14). To enter the contest, local residents and visitors should post a photo of a past Memphis in May experience with the hashtag #MEMCultureCrawl. Examples include photos from Beale Street Music Festival or the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, or showcasing previous festival merchandise like shirts or posters.
